June

It’s the middle of July and I am finally getting around to posting the June sweater. I need to work on my timeliness. Anyway! This is from yarn rehabilitated from my second attempt at the 1930s 1-hour sweater.

One day I will take better photos of the sweaters

Pros:

  1. Berroco Comfort (in all its weights) is a wonderful yarn. It feels like jersey and I am absolutely not allergic to it!
  2. The butterfly stitch makes for a very cute pattern.
  3. The fit is great! I have to wear it with my higher waisted skirts if I don’t want to flash belly ( I don’t), but this time that was a design choice and not a mistake.

Cons:

  1. I messed up one of the butterflies. It is severely lopsided.
  2. Sometimes the yarn splits so you only have half the threads on the needle, the other hang hanging off, looking messy.
  3. The bottom of the button band is a little wonky.

Conclusions: I was really reaching to find those cons here. I love how this turned out, even though the neck band exasperated me and I had to rework it several times. Berroco Comfort is fantastic. It’s got lovely colors, multiple weights, and doesn’t itch at all! I’m guessing I will have many moreĀ  sweaters made from it.

Late April

I really wanted to get this sweater done in time for Stumptown. And I did! However…

Way too big!

Pros:

  1. The yarn looks great with this pattern
  2. I love the pattern stitch
  3. It’s didn’t take as long as I feared

Cons:

  1. Way to big, especially in the bust!
  2. Really, it looks sloppy because it is too baggy
  3. I’m going to have to frog the torso and re-do it

Conclusions: I really like the style, so I’m going to do it over smaller and in the round so I don’t have to deal with side seams. And it was fun to knit, so it won’t be dreadful to work on it again.

Pretty collar

Pretty stitch

Early April

And here is the sweater I made out of the frogged Mountain Colors yarn! It is sort of based on a sweater I saw in the British show Foyle’s War, but with a bobble panel thrown in because I wanted to spice things up.

Pros:

  1. I like this so much better than the previous sweater made of this yarn!
  2. The puffed sleeves (although you can’t see them here) turned out really well
  3. I made this up all by myself and it doesn’t suck!

Cons:

  1. There wasn’t enough yarn for long sleeves
  2. I would have liked a little more yarn for the collar. Maybe I’ll pull just that out and start the short rows sooner.
  3. I’m one button short. I have to remember to buy another card.

Conclusions: A success! So much so that one of my friends wants me to knit her one just like it.

Bobbles!

March

I am so, so happy with this sweater! Okay, it is a little shorter in the torso than I am used to. But I am also wearing more natural-waist-hitting skirts these days, so it works out. And I knit this in a little under one week, including ripping out half the back to add another inch of length (still not as much as I intended, but I’m coping).

Pros:

  1. I love this yarn so much. It is soft, and silky, and has a wonderful stretch. I bought it on sale at Stitches, but I might have to cave and get some more before next year’s convention.
  2. The pattern is so easy and so cute! The simple one-cable twist is visually appealing, but very simple. High points for style.

Cons:

  1. As I said, a little short in the torso. If I had more yarn (the sweater took almost all of the two skeins I bought), I would have added another inch or two to the ribbing. But it’s not horrible at the current length.
  2. It’s short sleeved, so I can’t wear it immediately! It is so cold in SF right now.

Conclusions: March wins! I feel like I cheated a little, since it was such an easy and quick pattern. But I am so happy with the way it turned out that I will give myself some slack.
